#ThrowbackThursday: Fight The Power

This Throwback Thursday song comes in the wake of all of the senseless deaths that have occurred lately. Eric Garner, Ezell Ford, John Crawford, and Mike Brown, are all Black men who lost their lives to the police within the past three weeks.

Let’s rewind to 25 years ago, 1989, where hip hop group Public Enemy released their single, “Fight the Power” where the same issues are relevant today. (Also see, F*ck the Police.) Hip hop used to be very conscious and speak about the problems facing the Black community, but lately music artists have become mute about real matters because of “the powers that be.” Fight it.

“What we need is awareness, we can’t get careless” – PE, Fight the Power
