“Weeee Want The Funk! GOTTA HAVE THAT FUNK!!!”
The Gibson Amphitheatre was packed on Friday, March 23, as Hot 92.3 took it back…way back…back into time where people wore bell bottoms, an afro, big hoop earrings and platforms! Back when you had a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip! George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Con Funk Shun, The S.O.S. Band and Stephen Shockley & Fred Alexander – formerly of Lakeside came to one place, for one night, to tear down one stage…and they did.
Members of Lakeside opened the show and it was ” All The Way Live” while they played some of their biggest hits including “Fantastic Voyage.” Everything was “Fun, Fun, Fun..” when Con Funk Shun took the stage. They performed a medley of Maze, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind & Fire, Rick James and more! The S.O.S. Band “took their time and did it right” and the audience grooved to the “The Finest” and “Just Be Good To Me.” Of course George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic “tore the roof off the sucker and the audience was “One Nation Under A Groove.” Funk-A-Palooza was definitely a FUNKY show.
Did you go to the show? Feel free to leave your thoughts and comments.
